What are Small Winemakers’ Tasting Dozens (SWTDs)?

SWTDs are quarterly mixed dozens selected, assembled and delivered each February, May, August and November. Originally they focussed ‘mainly’ on small Australasian proprietor makers, while maintaining the essential freedom to include wines of interest from the larger companies where small scale winemaking also happens. Over the last couple of decades, imported wines have put significant pressure on local wines. Think price. There are many reasons for this and they cannot be ignored. They offer good value and interest.

As a result SWTDs are constantly evolving and are always an interesting collection.

 

Assemblage

The first Dozen was in May 1998, and since then the “Ask around" approach has been an enduring strength of the Dozens. Winemakers, wineheads (some older and very wise while others are a little younger, though very enthusiastic), and of course those participating in the Dozens, form a resource that is full of wonderful surprises. Also a few of the better company reps have been long time friends of the Dozens and regularly add value and knowledge. The result is:
